I met Michael on the planning committee for the Chesterton Festival and always admired his attention to detail , very hard work and his determination to see that the best was planned for the most. He was always friendly , welcoming and thoughtful and many of us will never know fully what he achieved for this community. Thank you Michael,

Michael did a huge amount of work for our local community and was a real inspiration to many of us in Chesterton.

I will miss our debates, even though I never managed to change Michael's mind on anything(!).

I first encountered Michael I think in the 1980s, when he was the Chief Exec of Cambridgeshire ACRE. Our paths crossed and recrossed many times since then, but I had not heard that he had moved to a care home and has since died. I worked closely with him during his years working with Age Concern (now Age UK). I remember a thoughtful, meticulous person, passionate about Chesterton and the welfare of older people, and a good team player. He was also humble, kind, and always willing to get involved in worthwhile projects! Rest in peace Michael!

I knew Michael as a dogged campaigner for his beloved community of Chesterton and during his much too short time as a city councillor, elected from that same community. He was a Liberal of the old school, a warrior for reasonable people and with a passion about the environment. As others here have said, he was tenacious, loyal and a gentle man. I miss him and I know that many others will too.

A tireless worker whose activities benefitted the whole of Chesterton in Cambridge. During his final years as a City Councillor, he fought for improved open spaces in the ward as well as helping and supporting residents. I will remember him as a feisty campaigner with a 'go get' attitude.

I met Michael many years ago when he and his wife Irene visited Milton Rd Library. We became friends and he encouraged me to join the Chesterton Community Association committee where he was the treasurer. He worked tirelessly for Chesterton and lots of other organisations despite having to care for Irene in her later years. He is sorely missed.
