Martin EdwardCHARLTONCullercoats Passed away peacefully in hospital on July 7th aged 64 years. Martin, beloved son of the late Ted and Avril and brother of the late Paul. Will be sadly missed by all his many friends and his family. The funeral service will take place at St George's Church, Cullercoats on Tuesday 27th July at 2.15pm followed by cremation at Tynemouth Crematorium. No flowers by request in favour of donations to the RNLI Cullercoats Lifeboat Station.

I was a colleague of Martin's when I worked as a researcher at NIRSA at Maynooth University. A more lovely person you will never meet. Full of dry wit, a brilliant and humble scholar and always made you feel so welcome. I particularly remember a fun-filled trip to Cyprus for an academic conference and the pints we enjoyed at the bar, far too late into the early hours! I always made a point of popping in to see him when I passed by Maynooth. Last time I met him he was so looking forward to retiring home to his beloved Newcastle. He used to travel home almost every weekend. The time before that he recounted with emotion the passing of his beloved Mum whom he loved dearly. He had such a positive impact on so many lives and I look forward to having a pint in his favourite haunt, The Roost, in his memory. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. RIP Martin, you will be missed.
