Just seen this. Very sad. The most enthusiastic English teacher. Fond memories of those lessons at QEGS. RIP.

She was like a breath of fresh air when she breezed into the classroom in her black gown, commanding instant respect. Celia Clout began teaching at QEGS in Sept 1958, at the same time I became a pupil. She continued to teach my class English, including the dreaded clause analysis, up to O level and then in a less exam based format in the sixth form. She also took us to see productions at Derby Playhouse which were hugely enjoyable and was happy to discuss books and plays whether or not they were part of the curriculum. She was a very popular member of the staff. Although I didn’t see her afterwards she left a life-long impression.

It is with great sorrow that I belatedly discovered the loss of a wonderful godmother. Always in my heart and thoughts and missed by all the Christodoulous.

RIP Celia, her friendly nature and great hospitality up in Wirksworth was much appreciated. Great walks and stately homes visited all topped off with a pint somewhere. She was a larrikin in the true Aussie sense and I’m lucky to have known her. Sorry for the loss to her family.
