Truly sad news, my heart felt sympathy to all his family. I first met Ian when we were kids. My Nan lived in Berry Street Bootle and when visiting I would often play with Ian as I remember his family having the shop on the corner if my memory serves me right. We often seen each other out and about in our late teens, normally in The Mons as it was local to our house Sidney Road and Bootle Cricket Club. I always knew Ian would be successful in life, he was a truly lovely person. We never really seen or met each other for many years after but having moved to Formby in 94 realised he too lived here. I will always remember Ian from our younger days and hope his family can take comfort in knowing how much he was loved and will be missed by many.

Oh my God, this has come as such a shock. A giant of not only Bootle CC but of Bootle itself. He was always a gent to me, taking time to speak to me at games both home and away. Suffice to say that Coey was and will always remain a personal cricket hero. I was at most of the Lancashire cup finals, and watched Bootle home and away, before starting to go to a lot of Lancs matches. I still went to Bootle games, but it was never the same once Coey left. I'm deeply saddened by this news. I'm in the Waterpudlian in Waterloo, and fighting tears back. Last time I saw Ian was when Bootle visited Formby before the COVID agenda, and as ever, he was happy to have a chat. R.I.P Bootle giant. The town should erect a statue to the man. Heartfelt sympathy to all of Ian's family.
