I attended Barnard Castle School with Jon when our respective parents worked overseas (1972-1979).
We were in the same year and the same house (York) and I have many memories of shared experiences – of growing up.
I will be forever in his debt, when in the sixth form, we attended an open-day at Durham University.
At the time, I believed I could never make the necessary grades for a University place, but on the return trip, he convinced me to at least try…which I successfully did.
I am deeply saddened to learn of Jon’s passing - but it is good to know he loved and was loved.

I was shocked to hear of Jon's passing. We trained together in the Royal Hong Kong Police in 1982-83 and worked in different posts in the three-year-contract which followed the training. Jon was first posted to MongKok district, working as a Duty Officer in the report room, and later underwent riot training at the Police Tactical Unit.
Jon was a good friend during his time in HK, and he decided to return to the UK to complete his legal studies, in 1986.
My thoughts go ourt to his wife, Helen, and their two sons.
