It was truly a privilege to now Derek. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met, with a wickedly dry sense of humour and beautiful manners, he was a gentle man in all senses of the word. One of a kind.

Our lives were enriched by meeting, and getting to know, Derek during our holidays in Cresswell. The times that I spent having a morning brew with him, on the bench overlooking the sea, were so special. Derek had forgotten more about life than I will ever know.

A man who stood like an oak tree through my childhood. Mr dance will always be remembered as one of the last greats men to walk this earth. I look forward to the day I can tell my child about the great fisherman that's lived at druridge bay

If ever you met this man you will know the huge hole he has left in our hearts. It was a privilege to have spent time with him. What a legend.
