Our Dad, Billy, Dowie or however you knew him was the biggest character and had the biggest heart to match it. He grew up and lived most of his life in Whinney banks, went to St Francis school, even playing football for the local team many years ago. He met and married Janet also sadly departed and they brought up 4 children Linda Christopher Elizabeth and Ben who all have families of their own now, giving him a long list of grandchildren & great gandchildren that he loved so much. To some that sounds like a house full but to Dad and his family it was a drop in the ocean. He was one of 13 children - Wally, Rose, Harold, Vera, Jean, Nelly, Ken, Joyce, Rita, Doreen, Clare, Dad and Anne (although not necessarily in that order)now that was a busy house for his dad Wally and Mum Mary.
Sadly Billy is the last of that long line but he leaves behind him many happy memories and funny stories you could always rely on Billy to make you smile or laugh out loud from shouting 'Night All' to send half of Whinney banks to sleep on his way home from the club or doing his lap of honour around the function room to say goodnight to everyone, usually to steal a well wished peck from the ladies or even just his cheeky charm.
He will leave the biggest hole in our hearts but will leave us with enough fond, funny and happy memories to fill it. This is his last goodnight. Thank you all for being here to share it. BDx
