Helen fought a fight to be proud of over the past year but sadly the evil Cancer got its way and took my incredibly talented friend, super humanitarian and all round BOSS of a women away from us.
People say all the time how an amazing person has left us, well this is one of those people, Helen stood for everything that was left, (never right!), good, kind, caring, and what ever united people, she stood for women and our rights, she was an incredible trade unionist within the fire brigade too.
I first met Helen 5 years ago when I joined the Labour Party and we became our respective womens officers for our CLP's.
I met up with Helen regularly, which always involved gin, and we discussed setting up a Stoke-on-trent Womens Group which was transformed into reality, we only got to do 3 group sessions before the chance to stand for councillors came about and we talked about how we were going to win the seats we were standing in and change Stoke-on-trent City Council, they wouldn't know what would hit them!
Oh Helen 😪
Then life got in the way, I went into business with my husband and Helen became ill. All of a sudden the dynamics of our friendship changed and we would chat and laugh about how rubbish it was that we didn't make it to the council because we'd be kicking those Tories backside in the chamber together, we were talking about what might have been instead of what we were planning to do.
Oh Helen I feel so angry and upset that we never got to complete what we wanted to do together.
I shall miss your wit, your joyous attitude, your fierce opinions and I already miss your loving and caring friendship.
I've written this because I will not be able to attend your funeral, which should have been packed to the absolute rafters with everyones lives you touched, I'm sure many many people have a hundred stories to say about you.
Rest in peace sister x
