It was a pleasure to care for Eric whilst I worked at Coxbench Hall. As long as he had his book and shaver he was content. Bless you Eric, I’m richer for meeting you x

I was saddened to learn of the death of Eric Lancashire in these pages today. I first met Eric when I joined Derbyshire Police Authority where he was a nominated Council member. He was forthright in debate and had a clear view of what was in the best interests of the people in Derbyshire he represented. Although we were at opposite ends of the political spectrum I became great friends with Eric. He was what one would now call "old school Labour" and he was a formidable debater - unafraid to say it as he saw it and argue for what was right. He was at all times a courteous, polite, honest and straightforward man who spoke his mind and what he said was genuine and from the heart. He was particularly proud of his MBE and his family which had been touched by sadness in his later years. Eric was a character and stood out in a world of colourless local politicians. We will not see his like again and I mourn his passing. I am proud that he was my friend and colleague for so many years
