MarieLAYDON (née Keating)née Keating It is with sadness that the Laydon family announce the death of Marie Laydon, wife of Ian Laydon. She died peacefully on Wednesday 17th November, aged 99. Born in Ebbw Vale, Wales, Marie trained as a teacher in Cheltenham where in 1942 she met her husband Ian, then training to be a pilot in the RAF. Marie went on to teach in primary schools in London throughout and beyond the war, marrying Ian in 1948. She was a homemaker throughout the 1950s and 1960s bringing up her four children John, Moira, Kate and Michael, before returning to the teaching profession at St Josephs, Hertingfordbury in 1969 where she taught for the following 12 years. She will be remembered for her exuberance and her generosity of spirit. She was an inspiring teacher and a tireless supporter of her husband who was the founding headmaster of The Broxbourne School (1959-1978). Her family will miss her laughter, her encouragement and her passion for art, literature and music. She is survived by her children Moira, Kate and Michael, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. There will be a funeral mass at St Augustine's RC Church Hoddesdon on Wednesday 8th December at 10am. No flowers but donations may given at the service to the NSPCC.
