I found this blurred photo taken in a Madrid street by a passer by when we were interrailing. Debbie

I knew Piers at West Kent College and he was such fun and thought deeply about so many things and we did some London visits as he read the NME to see when and where upcoming bands were performing and we saw Joy Division perform ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart”. Piers then masterminded our European travel trip, as soon as we’d completed our A levels with him pouring over European Train Timetables and he planned a route very expertly. We ended up Interrailing together round Europe in 1979 for a month ending up in Morocco and Greece, the former was a challenging experience and the latter was lovely and overall we saw and learned so much including our favourite country being Spain for its friendly natives! Piers then went off to Newcastle University and I went to University of Warwick and we met up one time at Warwick and he travelled down from Newcastle and we exchanged stories on University life. I believe he said he had met someone and after that we got caught up in our separate lives. We were great friends and I always regretted losing touch. I am deeply saddened to learn we have lost this fascinating personality and shining light. My heartfelt thoughts go to his friends and family. So very sorry
and so unexpected to learn of his loss. Debbie Howell (formerly West Kent College). X

Shocked! I was at University in Newcastle with Piers from 1979-82. We lost touch in the early nineties but I’d always hoped we may re-connect one day. I think of him often and have always missed him. I know it’s late but - Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
