PeterLORDMr Peter Lord, of Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington, aged 89, passed away peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, March 23. Loving husband of the late Jean Lord and father to Clive, Andrea, and Barry. Peter was born and grew up in Accrington, attended Peel Park school, then gained a scholarship to Accrington Grammar school. He studied engineering at Accrington Technical College and attended Whalley Road Congregational Church and was a member of the scouts, youth club, cricket, and tennis teams. He met his future wife at a Saturday social evening in 1951 and they married in 1957. He spent his working life in engineering working for the Co-operative wholesale society in Manchester on refrigeration design, Mullards in Blackburn on television tube design and as Chief draughtsman at Lang Bridges in Accrington. He then worked in a new industry, based in Darwen, connected to the design and manufacture of machinery for tufted carpets. Later with two colleagues he took over a small engineering company, TSL chains limited, also based in Darwen, which designed and manufactured transmission chains for many industries across the UK until it was sold in the early 1980s and which he continued to manage until retiring in 1991. Peter was a keen photographer and an avid researcher of family history. His funeral service will take place for his family and close friends only, due to the current government restrictions, at Accrington Crematorium on Tuesday, April 6 at 11am. The ashes interment will take place at 1pm on Tuesday, September 14 (his 64th wedding anniversary) at Accrington Cemetery, Burnley Road, where his ashes will be laid to rest with those of his late wife, sister, and brother-in-law. In place of flowers if you wish to make a donation to Community Solutions North West, who supported Peter during the last year of his life, please visit www. champfunerals.com/ obituaries Funeral director: Champ Funeral Services, Clayton-le-Moors.
