Sylvia EleanorMACFARLANE ((nee Wright))(nee Wright) Sylvia was born in Belfast on 9th August 1944. Her family relocated to England a few years later and Sylvia was brought up near the Lickey Hills, in Rednal. She met her future husband, Andrew, in 1962 when they were both students at Birmingham's Teacher Training College. She developed a love of teaching, at which she excelled. Sadly, Sylvia passed away in Good Hope Hospital on 22nd March, after a long illness, very bravely endured. She was a beloved wife, and a wonderful mother to the late Simon and to James. Sylvia will be sorely missed by her husband and so many friends and, not least, by a multitude of former children and their parents. She was a very dedicated and popular teacher, who had taught in Sutton Coldfield, at Holland House Infant, Wylde Green Primary, and New Oscott Primary Schools. She is also well remembered as an inspiring Head Teacher at Castle Bromwich Infant School. In her retirement, Sylvia organised memorable summer garden parties for many years, raising thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Care. She had a busy and fulfilling retirement and was an active member of several local societies. When the national situation recovers sufficiently, there will be an opportunity to celebrate Sylvia's life and achievements at a Memorial event, which will be advertised. Donations may be sent to Macmillan Cancer Care: Support Donations, 87-90 Albert Embankment, London SE1 7UQ.
