My memories of Grandad are of a warm and loving man, who put many people first before himself. As Grandchildren we were often spoilt and some of my earliest memories were arriving and hearing Grandad whistling away making us fish fingers and chips in the fryer which you could smell as soon as you got out of the car. I also remember the trolley he made and would wheel Craig and myself round the street and how we were the envy of the local kids who we knew from school.
As I got older he introduced me to his sporting love of golf, something I took to and felt very fortunate that he spent so much on lessons and my first clubs. I have fond memories of Sunday morning visits to Lingdale with him. Something that rejuvinated him as he also got some clubs and played with me out on the course. One of my funniest moments was him standing on the first tee and him placing a driving range ball on the the tee which he had "borrrowed" from our recent visit to the driving range along with 20 or 30 others alsoin his bag! As I got older and Grandad had to step away due to his eyesight and knee trouble I went on to enjoy several years playing golf and winning competitions. Something I will always remember reporting back to him and his enjoyment in sharing my achievments with me.
I will always remember him with fondness for the rest of my life and as I become a parent for the first time in the coming days, I will like to think that some of his examples and life lessons will have rubbed off on me and something I can pass on to my daughter.
