Mr Strawbridge was a great teacher, he was down to earth without being too soft. Education in your formative years is so important, not just the academic side but understanding the difference between right and wrong, everyone in the school knew that he was there because he cared. A lovely man, thinking of his family at this sad time. Chantelle Taylor (High Street Primary)

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of a very special man. He taught me in years 5 and 6 and what a wonderful 2 years they were. Fond memories of his sweet jar, being given a pound to get some more and quick cricket on the field! But mostly of the inspirational teacher he was and how he truly cared about us all. He has left a mark on hundreds of High Street pupils and parents lives and will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Mr Strawbridge and thank you for everything. Sending my sincere condolences to his family.

I am so sad to hear of this great loss to the world and condolances to Diane and the family. Derek taught all 3 of my children and I worked with him as Chair of Governors for 18 years. He was deeply loved and turned down the position of head teacher twice because he was a teacher not an administrator. He loved all the kids and they all loved him. Truly inspirational, loved and respected. He touched so many lives xx
