Donald AmbroseSWINDELLWe are deeply saddened to announce that
Donald Swindell passed away at home on
Saturday 14th September 2024 aged 89 years
after a long illness.

Don completed 2 years National Service in the RAF after leaving school where he was a Senior Aircraftsman specialising as a Wireless and Radar technician. He was an extremely skilled cabinet maker and he taught Woodwork and Mathematics at the William Allitt School for 33 years where he became Head of Upper School before retiring in 1991. He continued to return as a supply teacher at the William Allitt school for many years afterwards where he also volunteered in the Young Enterprise scheme helping students to develop the skills to start their own businesses. He dedicated his life to helping young people achieve their ambitions. He was quite a character and had an enthusiasm for conversation.

He will be remembered by his wife Gillian,
his children Kath and Steve, Alan, Chris and Dan,
his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at Bretby Crematorium at 11.15am on Thursday 24th October.

The family are kindly asking for donations to support either the British Heart Foundation in aid of research into vascular dementia or the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust.

With much love to all the family. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew & loved him. My Dad’s greatest friend. A huge character who was always so cheerful & full of laughter & fun. Our families had some great times on our outings & holidays together, I remember so well, the good old days! Xxx

Lovely man. Great teacher with lots of patience. He helped me make a train in the 80s in woodwork and it was quite respectable thanks to him. He just had a great way with his students. Love to all his family xxx
