SarahTABUNSWe are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear mother, Sarah (Sally) Tabuns (nee Jewell) on September 5, 2024 in her 95th year. She is predeceased by our father, Anton (Tony), and our brother, Frank (Kim), along with her parents, William and Mary Jewell, and her brothers and sisters, Mary, Bridget, John, Frank, Ellen and Phoebe in England. She is survived by her son Peter (Shawn), her daughter Anna (Rob), her daughter-in-law Kim and her grandchildren Anton, Ben, Zach, Sara, Kate (Brett) and Greg and her great-grandson Levi. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Britain and Latvia. Born in Liverpool on April 27, 1929 she grew up in depression and wartime era England. She was evacuated along with her sister Bridget, and brother John, to Whixall in Shropshire during the blitz. Years later, after the war, she joined the Women's Land Army. During that time, she met our father at a farm labourers' dance, married and emigrated to Canada in 1951. Settling first in London and then Woodstock, Ontario they eventually put down roots in Hamilton and raised three children. In later years she enjoyed working as a guide at Dundurn Castle and then at Whitehern Historic House in Hamilton. She was also active in the community by volunteering in numerous election campaigns. In her retirement years, she and our father followed their dream and travelled the world.

Her passions were history and politics, travel, reading, knitting and singing. Her family always came first, however, and she was a loving, supportive mother who deeply cared about her children and their wellbeing.

She spent her last years at the Court at Rushdale and made many friends with the staff and residents alike. She will be forever missed by all who knew her and who enjoyed her sense of humour, kindness and love of life.

In her last few weeks at Juravinski Hospital and their satellite facility she was treated with kindness by all the staff who attended her. We are grateful to them.

A private memorial service will follow.

A lovely auntie and an amazing sister to my mum (Bridie), Sarah (Sal) was a kind, caring lady who brought much joy on her visits home to the UK. One of the last of her generation. As an evacuee of WWII, she freely gave her time to relate her wonderful memories and stories, which I so appreciated.

Rest in peace Auntie Sarah, you will be fondly remembered.

Condolences to Peter, Anna and all the family.

Niece Jean, Alan and family x
