Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers 25 July 1929 - 12 September 2020 Bruce Arnold Townsend, aged 91, has left his full and vital life to join the Carefree Cyclists Club in the sky. Much loved husband of Angela his later life wife. He died Stepfather to Emma and Zoe; Father to Matthew, Adam and Hannah; Grandfather to nine and a Great-Grandfather. Born in Rugby; Scholarship Pupil of Rugby School; Officer Royal West African Frontier Force Nigeria; Graduate of University College London; Life career Chemical Engineer, Senior Management in Courtaulds’ Companies; Chairman of Coventry Cycling Club 20 years; his team awarded Queens Award for Export and Technology in 1989, presented to him by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. Bruce lived to celebrate his tenth decade, a privilege enjoyed by only one person in 10,000. He was a man of integrity and regarded as being ‘unique’, ‘magnetic’, ‘vivacious’ and ‘life loving’. His wishes will be honoured to provide a Financial Legacy to Rugby School for the Education of disadvantaged young people; Direct Cremation; Life Celebration in Madeira and Ashes to a favourite sunshine place. His personal attitude to life was summed up by his favourite song – Frank Sinatra’s ‘I did It My Way’. And now, the end is near And so I face the final curtain My friends, I'll say it clear I'll state my case of which I'm certain I've lived a life that's full I travelled each and every highway But more, much more than this I did it my way …..
