Kirsteen ElizabethWALMSLEY (NEE SCOTT) (Kirsty)Suddenly, on November 9th 2023, at Royal Blackburn Hospital. Kirsteen, aged
51 years of Clitheroe. The dearly loved wife of Paul, much loved mum of
Callum and Alice and precious and only daughter of the late Elizabeth and
Brian. Treasured daughter in law of Geraldine and Geoff, dear sister in law of
Johanna, David and Paul and special Auntie to William, Harriet and Louisa. A
cherished and wonderful friend to so many, especially Michelle and Anne.
A private cremation will take place on Friday 1st December 2023 followed by a
celebration of her life, at her beloved Downham Church at 1.30pm.
Kirsteen was born on 8th March 1972 at Queen’s Park Hospital, Blackburn. She
lived in the family home in Downham where she attended the village school
and met her lifelong friends Michelle and Anne. She moved up to Clitheroe
Royal Grammar School in September 1983. Kirsteen spent a happy childhood
in Downham with her mum and dad, until Brian sadly died in 1987, when
Kirsteen was only 15. However, she supported her mum through their loss and
they had many happy adventures together, including a cruise to Egypt and
travelling to The Holy Land. They were both faithful members of Downham
Church and were heavily involved with the church choir and the WI.
After completing her GCSEs and A Levels, Kirsteen took a year out and worked
for RVBC, particularly enjoying her time at the Tourist Information Office. She
then decided to pursue a career in teaching, so she moved to Lancaster in 1991
to study for a degree in Primary Education at St Martin’s College. After
graduating, she took up her first teaching post at St Luke’s in Blackburn.
She met Paul in September 1995 and they became engaged shortly afterwards.
Sadly her mother Liz passed away just before they were married at Downham
Church in October 1996. However, happier times were ahead for Kirsteen and
Paul as they welcomed their son Callum in 1998, followed by his sister Alice in
2001.
After living in Kiln Close, Clitheroe, the family moved back to her beloved
Downham, into the house where she grew up.
She loved being in Downham bringing up their children and they all enjoyed
the village social life, being especially involved with the Cricket Club. She took
up a new teaching position at Bolton by Bowland Primary School, where she
became a firm favourite with the children she taught.
Several years later, they moved to Greengates in Downham, a larger cottage,
where they were happy for many years. In 2014, Kirsteen finally agreed on a move to Blakewater Road, in Clitheroe - to a much larger (and much warmer)
newly built property! However, she still came back to Downham Church to
worship every Sunday without fail.
After many happy years at Bolton by Bowland School, Kirsteen took up a
management position with LCC, based at County Hall in Preston. She was a
Team Manager in the SEND Department – working with many Special Schools
in the South Area of Lancashire. This was a position of great responsibility
which she gave her all to, with her typical enthusiasm and passion.
She loved animals and had many special and treasured cats and dogs over the
years. Music was also a passion. In addition to being Choir Mistress at
Downham for many years, she was also a member of the Clitheroe Parish
Church ODS Show Choir, which she loved.
Kirsteen will be remembered for many things – her sense of fun, her
enthusiasm and drive and also her quick wit and sharp mind. She always knew
the right thing do and remained calm in even the most stressful situation. But
most people will remember her for her smile and infectious laugh. It really
would light up the room.
She was fiercely proud of Callum and Alice and all that they have achieved, but
especially the amazing young adults they have grown into. She will live on
through them.
She was taken from us far, far too soon. But she did not like drama and
certainly did not like a fuss. She would want us to remember the good times
we have shared together and carry on living life to the full, just as she did.
We would like to ask for family flowers only, but should anyone wish to make a donation in Kirsty's memory, they are invited for two charities which she was very fond of, and they can be given via this website to the Little Princess Trust or Pets as Therapy.
