Very sad to hear the news of Ron's passing. But 94 years is a good age, and Ron had a very full life. He would probably say that it has been a privilege to teach all those years. I would say that it was a privilege to have had Ron as a teacher, especially the year when he was my form master around 1963.
As a teacher, he was one of the best at Victoria. He combined academic tuition, good humour, and a care and concern for his pupils which would be hard to better.
His enthusiasm for teaching and drama were evident in the results that he achieved for the school and it's boys.
I visited Ron a couple of times in recent years with my brother. He was still active in his retirement. He had always wanted to learn to play the piano, and so took lessons. Sadly I never got to hear him play. He was also part way through writing his memoirs. I hope he managed to finish the writing. It would, I am sure, be interesting and entertaining reading for all who knew him, especially the many hundreds of pupils that he taught.
He will be missed, but I am glad to say that I knew him, and that knowing him was a pleasure.
