The obituary notice of Squadron Leader Donald Graham Archie (DFM, RAF, (Ret'd)) KINCH

I had the pleasure of caring for Archie up until December last year, he was an absolute gentleman and I loved hearing his stories and seeing his wonderful paintings he had done. One of my colleagues got a magazine for Archie with an article about him flying in it and I was so moved by the article and what he had accomplished throughout his years. He was such inspirational chap who will be greatly missed. RIP Archie, a true hero

I have so many fond memories that I will cherish...Archie and Margie always made me feel very at home in there cosy sun filled siting room in Stanley. Archie always made me laugh! One of the distinct conversations I remember having with him on our first encounter was the day he went to the local shopping mall he would announce ‘make way for the captain’ and people parted like the Red Sea. He was a proud man that shared many stories of his life in the airforce. I look forward to passing these stories on to my daughter. You will be missed Archie! Lots of love, Bianca Kinch

I vividly recall Archie's fascination with my ability to bounce a golf ball on a golf club many times and in different ways. "It's just like the Tiger Woods commercial! Surely not many people can do that...?" I was just 11.

Although we shared a passion for golf, the best times we spent together were in the sitting room. Archie, Margie, Bianca and myself would chat, reminisce on days gone past and talk about different aspects of life. In fact, the last time we were all together was Easter 2017. Bianca and I drove up to Stanley from London. We stayed in a lovely cottage near Archie's Golf Course.

Many of you will know Margie used to do the cooking. She'd always put on wonderful feasts whilst we were in town. This time it was on us. We wanted to do something special for Margie. We decided to cook a few traditional Sri Lankan curries. We made sure they weren't too spicy of course. We all had a brilliant time. This reminded Archie and Margie of the times they spent in Ceylon all those years ago. Yet the most surprising thing was Margie's near obsession with the chocolate avocado mousse cake we made. I'd never seen her eat multiple servings of anything in my life. This was a different story. I had to hold myself back, just so there was more for her :)

This is but one of many great memories we shared together. I'm thankful for all of these times. I'll miss our conversations. I'll miss Archie's infatuation with Bianca. He was very fond of her. Always the gentleman.

It is almost 33 years to the day since I climbed into a Cessna 150 with Archie for the first time. It is with great fondness and gratitude that I remember his gentle, thorough, relentlessly and necessarily, pedantic instruction that stood me in great stead for my future time on Boeing 737, 757 and 767s. I can see him now folding his tall frame to squeeze into the tiny airplane and see that big hand pulling back the throttle for yet another engine failure (exercise thankfully), counting out loud the manual trim spins required 1,2,3,4...
