So sorry to see this news. Melville was a good friend when I lived in Dumfries and one of his paintings still has pride of place in my living room in Sydney, Australia

I was so sad to learn of Melville's death. He was kind and thoughtful and generous - and had a great sense of fun. It was his encouragement in his painting classes that led to me doing an art degree after I returned to New Zealand, and I will forever be grateful for that. I will miss him as a friend. What a legacy he leaves, in his paintings and in his service to the community. My heartfelt condolences to Douglas and the rest of his family.
