This is a belated comment as I only found out about the sad event when my email with best wishes for the New Year was returned as undeliverable. He proof read four books of mine and notably Air Crashes and Miracle Landings and a novel. I felt considerable warmth and understanding even though we never actually spoke. I will greatly miss him and wish his family and friends all the best, as we wished each other at the end of our many emails touching on many subjects and aspects of life. Christopher Bartlett

Marcus was a remarkable man - a kind, sympathetic friend, a great listener, always supportive of other people's dreams and plans. He was a fine writer, and one of his greatest strengths (as a writer, and a person) was that he was always interested in other people. He wasn't remotely materialistic, he wasn't interested in money or status or possessions, and he was never envious of people who had more of these things than he did. I knew him first as a colleague, at the Mail on Sunday, and later as a friend, when we were both trying to write books instead of journalism. Marcus wrote his book - a masterpiece, The Last Wrestlers, which will certainly outlive him. He will be missed by countless people across the world whose lives he touched, whom he encouraged and inspired. William Cook

Hello, I didn't know Marcus personally but am very touched by his passing. I am a writer who recently collaborated with Marcus on two novels. His attention and care for my work was amazing. Marcus made me a better writer and for the brief time we worked together I am grateful. Prayers and thoughts to his family and friends, and rest for his eternal soul.
