Dudley EricBARROW (Skip)Skip Born 28th July 1924 and passed away on Sunday 14th April 2019 at the age of 94, following a number of weeks in hospital. Although he appeared to be improving he eventually lost the battle. The vast majority of people will have met or known of Dudley through his 76 years of service to Scouting. From his first role as Assistant Scout leader in 1942, Scout Leader from 1944, followed by Group Scout Leader and supporter of 16th Ide Hill Scout Group. Dudley was also a long serving member of the Scout Fellowship and Sevenoaks District Active Support and Sevenoaks District President from 2007. "Dudley's enthusiasm and passion for Scouting is something I deeply admire and believe his loyalty to Scouting will continue to be reflected within the District as he influenced so many Scouters beyond my time in Scouting. Sevenoaks District will not be quite the same without him. I was privileged to have known Dudley during my time as ADC-beavers, District Commissioner and later as District Secretary" - Jeanette Schwarz Dudley was awarded several decorations for his services to Scouting including in 2005, the Silver Wolf the highest award a Scouter can get. In 2006 he received an MBE from the Queen for Services to Young People. He met his Wife Jean, through Scouting, when they both attended the first campfire leaders training event. They were married in 1959 with Jean's Cub Pack providing the guard of honour. In retirement, Dudley was a keen gardener and carpenter, making bird tables and name plaques for houses. At the bottom of his garden he had a large wooded area which he maintained, complete with campfire circle, flag pole, camping area and space for Cubs and Scouts to build fires and cook. Dudley leaves behind his children Christopher, Nicola, Mandy and Richard, and five grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, 11th May at 2.30pm in the Church at Ide Hill. Following the Service Dudleys family invite you to join them at the Ide Hill Scout Headquarters

I used to come to their farm every sunday morning with my father, Geoffrey Hargreaves to feed the calves. I used to love this each week. Thankyou Dudley for helping me to create special memories of time with my late father. Beth Mowen (nee Hargreaves)
