Geoff was such a great friend of my father Alan Startin. From when I was about 10 they would take me every Sunday evening to play squash, first in Bracknell and later to Lakeside in Frimley. At some point along the way I began to win a few points, until the day came that the three of us were evenly matched. We would work up quite a thirst on the court and then there was always much good cheer and laughter when Geoff and Alan were relaxing together afterwards. On a personal note, he generously helped me find my first car and came to our house many times to point us in the right direction as we struggled with a major overhaul. Geoff’s enthusiasm and guidance eventually helped us get the car on the road and this experience sowed in me a passion for things mechanical. When Alan became ill, Geoff could not have done more to provide steady comfort - he was the best of friends my father could have had.
