Peter 'Chips'MARTINMARTIN - PETER 'CHIPS', October 14, 2019. Died on the 14th October 2019 at Glan Clwyd Hospital after a short illness. Peter was from Pwllheli and proud of it. Peter is one of 7 children, one sister Clare and five brothers Ian, William, Bryn, Andrew and Paul. He went to Penlliniau School and the Old Ysgol Ramadeg Pwllheli where he was a Prefect and followed to Bristol University to do Aeronautical Engineering. However Peter changed his mind during this course and went to Cardiff University where he acquired his degree in Science and Technology. He later acquired an MSC at the University of Salford. Peter was a lecturer for 30 years or so in Bolton Institute of Higher Education (now Bolton University), and retired from there. He had worked in industry prior to being a lecturer for Standard Telephone and Cables Newport followed by Marconi in Essex and Pleseys in Liverpool. He loved his work especially as a lecturer. He interacted well with his students and some went on to work for the M.O.D. and other important posts. He had a strong bond with all of his students and his students thought highly of him. Peter married Catherine in 1966 and they had 2 daughters Mari and Margaret and two grandchildren Harri and Louis whom he loved dearly. Peter was an athletic person. He was a good rugby player and played the position of 'hooker'. He was also a keen squash player and a very good one. Other pastimes included playing the guitar and playing his beloved banjo. He loved sailing and went fishing with his father from a young age and later he took up sailing and took part in races. Most recently he took part in the Three Peaks Races. For the past four years Peter and Catherine have been living in Old Colwyn to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. During his time in Old Colwyn Peter was visited often by friends who were former colleagues from Bolton University. They would enjoy walks and real ale. Peter will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral to be held at St. Mary's Church, Morfa Nefyn on Thursday October 24th at 1:30pm.
