I was very, very sad to learn of Prof. Dr. Ruth Helyer's passing; it was forty years too soon. The University Centre Quayside was established following a Helyerian approach and we will continue in homage to the HE WBL approach that Ruth championed. Thank you Ruth.

I was with Ruth on the Friday before - we exchanged some work war stories during the day and had lunch together with the VC and DVC. What a great shock it was to learn that only a couple of days after Ruth had passed away. My thoughts are with Ruth's family during this tough time. Left by Malcolm Cathcart

This hs been a terrible shock and I send my sincere commiserations to Neil, Max Megan and family. Ruth was a good colleague and friend. We spent enjoyable times together and I will miss her greatly. She led the way in our field with her books on learning and teaching, her editorship of a successful journal, still on its way to further success. She was fun to be with and had a rare wit. It is a sad loss to us all. Prof Carol Costley

I was lucky to know Ruth for 20 years as a fantastic colleague and friend. It is difficult to comprehend that someone so talented and full of life is no longer with us. Heart felt sympathy to Neil and all the Family.

Dear Neil and family,
I am very sad to read of Ruth's passing. I knew Ruth when I worked at Barclaycard in the 80's - she was one of our tea time group. Her fondness for dogs, sticks in my mind, along with her knowing her own mind and being forthright. Such an attractive woman and gone too soon. Sorry I won't be able to attend her funeral, as I live in Australia. Much love to you all at this very sad time.
Christine Smith (nee Vaughan).
