Sorry to hear of David's passing we were apprentices together at Babbington Colliery in 1962-66. I enjoyed his quick wit and sometimes sarcasm even if he was an electrician. Well remembered Ian Withers : 22/06/2020

David was the union rep at Babbington when my dad (Albert Knight) was manager there. The relationship between pit manager and union rep isn’t usually a good one, but David used a lot of common sense and knew when to pick his battles. As a result my dad had a great deal of respect for him and they had an excellent working relationship. Some people would say that David should have been more ‘hard line’, but he actually achieved more by being a good negotiator than he ever would have by taking a different stance.
I also knew David quite well, and took some publicity photos for him at one point.
I was also branch chairman of the COSA union at Edwinstowe, and talked with David at length about how we could improve the situation for members of the staff branch of the NUM and possibly become affiliated to the UDM in some way.

Unfortunately I lost touch with David after I left the Coal Board in the early 90’s, and I’m saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts to David’s family and friends.
