DorothyWOOD (Bebbington)WOOD - DOROTHY (Bebbington), March 26, 2020. Of The Tannery, Abergele, North Wales passed away on March 26, 2020 in her 97th year at The Old Convent Nursing Home, Colwyn Bay, North Wales after several years of declining health. Born to William Thomas Bebbington and Edith Powell Bebbington on January 28, 1924 in Liverpool, UK. Preceding her in death on March 26, 2002 husband of 57 years, Roy Sydney Wood. Dorothy served as a WAAF for 5 years, from '41 to '45, during World War II as a pay accounts clerk, where she met Roy, who was also in the RAF. After the war she opened her own "fancy goods" shop in Altrincham, Cheshire, which she ran successfully for 10 years and sold high end fancy goods, light fixtures and ornamental iron work, produced by Pickstons Steel Fabricators, Roy's business. In June of 1963 she and her husband Roy bought and operated the 400 year old inn, the Stag Hotel in LLangernyw, North Wales. Together they 'put it on the map' and built it into one of the most popular and renowned pubs in North Wales. They sold the Stag in 1983 and retired to their family home Haul-a-Gwynt, which Roy built, in the same village. By the late 2000's, the property had become too much for Dorothy on her own and she moved to Tannery Court in Abergele for 9 years until moving into care at the Old Convent Nursing Home 3 years ago. Dorothy will also be remembered for 27 years of voluntary service with League of Friends, and 20 years of WI membership in Llangernyw, of which she was President for 11 of those years. She was a tireless advocate of St. Kentigerns Hospice, St Asaph, and did numerous fundraisings for them. Left to cherish her memory are her 2 children, son Gerald 'Gerry' (Brenda) of Salisbury, North Carolina, daughter Kandi Wood of Coldwater, Ontario. Sister Margorie Bawden, Half Sisters, Mairina (Tony) and Catrin Bebbington, Grandchildren, Bradley Wood (Courtney), of Cornelius, North Carolina, Vanessa Wood McElroy (Craig) of Burlington, Ontario and Great grandchildren, Harrison and Olivia McElroy, Sebastian and Margot Wood. She will be cremated and a service to celebrate her life will be held a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Kentigern's Hospice, St. Asaph were her wishes would be greatly appreciated c/o R.W.Roberts & Son, Gorffwysfa, Ystrad Road, Denbigh. 01745 812935

Dorothy has always been in my life. I have wonderful memories of her when I was a little girl coming to camp with Roy in our fields in Bryn Asgwrn farm each Summer. She was full of fun and vitality.
Later as a teenager, visiting The Stag I can see her cooking endless chickens for their famous ' chicken rough' and also behind the bar with her wonderful sense of humour and looking so glamorous.
Our father spent lots of happy times with her at The Stag. ...he adored her.
I hope you rest in peace now, Doll, as our father called you.
You were loved by so many.

Remembering my dear friend and confidant Dorothy. I have known you for over 55years, initially as a friend of my parents and when my mother passed away in 2012 you reached out and offered me a motherly ear and so began a much deeper friendship of confidences and reminiscence - no subject was off limits! Rest in peace Dorothy, and know that I will miss you. xx

It was a privilege to be able to represent the family at the service at Colwyn Bay Crematorium today.
As the youngest of the four sisters I felt I missed out on knowing Dorothy as well as I would have wished. She was an amazing and strong woman that inspired me to"go out there and do what I wanted to do".
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Rest now Dorothy,
Catrin Bebbington

Remembering my dear friend & neighbour Dorothy today. We shared some happy times with Llangernyw WI members over the years. I am sad I cannot attend today due to government regulations and we are all in a locked down state because of health risk I am with you in spirit and my prayers are for you and your family. Rest in peace dear Dorothy may God bless you.

Dear Mom,
My heart aches that I can't be there on Monday to 'farewell' you on this last part of your earthly journey. This dreadful pandemic is keeping us all away and preventing us from giving you the send off you deserve and that we all planned together. The service would have been at St. Digains, Llangernyw, with lots of wonderful Welsh singing and a wake at The Stag. Many people would have wanted to pay their last respects to you and will not be able to, for the now.
Can you imagine, I am reduced to watching your committal on a webcast? No, I bet you can't.
So I must find my 'peace' and 'closure' where I can, until we can get back to Wales sometime in the future and 'do it properly'.
As you would say 'if I only had a magic carpet, I'd be with you now'....
I love you to the moon and back and then around again. You were my greatest fan and are no longer in the bleachers.
Now you are pain free and 'on the wing'... come visit with me on my porch when you can.
Rest easy now Mom, your watch is over.
Forever in my heart,
Kandi
