I have only known Basil for four years since moving in next door to him and his wife Gill. What a gentleman and kind, funny and all round lovely man who will be greatly missed by many. Rest In Peace Basil, I'm sure you are wearing a nice pair of brightly coloured Asics up there 🙂

Basil was a colleague at Dudley Council. He was a gentleman, inspirational and ever so modest. His Olympic medal appeared on occasion, not in a flashy way but merely to show local kids and to inspire them to achieve their own personal goals.

I was privileged to know Basil as a fellow athlete 60 years ago, as a colleague in the MCCCA where we were Secretary and Treasurer, and latterly as an old friend to chat with at the Sutton Park Relays. He was my all-time athletic hero and role model, and was the epitome of all that is good about the sport of running.

Many years ago as a member of the Coventry Godiva club I used to watch you running round the Butts stadium as you ran round for hours. I did manage to meet you a couple of years ago and what a very pleasant person you were.

Basil. You were a great athlete and an inspiration to myself and all fellow athletes in Godiva and around the world in our formative years. May you rest in peace. Robin.
