I was very sorry to read the very sad news of the passing of 'Jim' Ward last year. Way back in the late 1950's he worked in the BR Research Dept. Chemical Laboratory in Calvert Street whilst I was in the Metallurgy Dept. in London Road. We both successfully took our final Degree examinations at the same time in 1960, Jim in Chemistry and me in Physics.
After retirement our paths rarely crossed as in 1970 I had moved to the DOCE in London. However when we did we spoke of the times at college as the 'good old hard working times'.
