An inspiring teacher. He sparked an interest in history that has never left me. He was also so insistent that we VOTED, always letting us know how lucky we were to have democracy, and if we didn't vote, we could never complain about politics! Too true. Thank you for the lessons in history and your lessons in life.

Mr Sainsbury was my favourite teacher and inspired me to go on to study history at university. He also wrote me references and would always remember me when I saw him in town years later. A local legend!

Such fond memories of being taught by Mr Sainsbury. A gentle but no nonsense teacher. He taught generations, and will be long and fondly remembered

On behalf of Roger's family, we would like to thank Each and Every One of you who has sent such touching tributes, messages and digital candles mainly from friends, former pupils at South Molton Community College and friends from Barnstaple , Plymouth etc..
Yes, Roger was born in Plymouth where he studied at Devonport High School then on to Exeter University where he met his wife Geraldine.
Being a Janner, Roger was a big Plymouth Argyle fan , through thick and thin, and he went to see them live at Home Park and also away for over 80 years !
Now, he will be in Heaven with Geraldine , other relatives and friends from England, Ireland, Spain etc..
Rest in Peace Roger.
You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Lots of love,
from Paul, Ana, Catherine and David xxxx
