Denny taught me at St Augustines between 1968 and 1975. He first saw me playing football for Sale Primary schools at Brooklands in my last year at Primary School. I remember I played poorly that day, but Denny clearly didn't think so as he singled me out in my first football session at St Augustine's and unintentionally put the fear of God into me. From then on he kept an eye on me, made me team captain and four years later, lined me up to play at Old Trafford for Manchester Schools - a dream come true for me. I remember Denny as a quiet man, who commanded total respect. A lovely bloke

Our thoughts are very much with Cath, Mark, Phil, Denis and all the family at this particularly sad time. We will always remember Denny as a most kind gentleman, who bore the many challenges in his life with great courage. He was always a pleasure to be with and entertained us over the years with his inexhaustible fund of stories. He will be sorely missed by us all, but his memory will live on. Peter and Christine Stubbs
