Mab y diweddar Lyn a Nan Howell o Riwbeina Caerdydd, teulu a wnaeth gyfraniad arbennig i Gapel Heol y Crwys dros gyfnod hir Ar ol graddio yn y Gyfraith yn Aberystwyth bu Gareth yn Ynad Heddwch yng Nghymru ac fe ddrafftiodd gynigion cynnar ar gyfer y datblygiadau cyfansoddiadol ddaeth yn ddeddf yn 1999. Yna bu'n arwain y ffordd gyda gwahanol fudiadau fel Banc y Byd, Sefydliad Cydwladol y Gweithwyr a'r Cenhedloedd Unedig i greu gwell amodau byw i bobl mewn gwir angen yn sgil tlodi neu ryfel ar hyd a lled y byd. Cafodd y gwaith ei gydnabod pan urddwyd e'n Gymrawd er Anrhydedd yn ei hen Brifysgol yn Aber yr Haf diwetha. Roedd bob amser yn weithgar iawn yn ei gymuned leol ble bynnag fyddai'n byw - yn enwedig yn ei eglwys ac yn y bywyd Cymraeg - fe oedd Llywydd Cymdeithas Gymraeg Washington ar hyn o bryd. Bydd colled fawr ar ei ol Surrounded by his loving family - his wife Amy and sons Llewelyn and Rhys, Gareth passed away in Washington USA at the age of 75. Son of the late Lyn and Nan Howell of Rhiwbina Cardiff, a family that made a valuable contribution at Crwys Road Chapel in Cardiff for many years. After graduating in law at Aberystwyth University, Gareth became a magistrate in Wales and also drafted early proposals for Welsh constitutional development that became law in 1999. He then embarked on a career with organisations such as the World Bank Group, the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations where he showed innovative leadership in devising practical solutions to problems in countries facing extreme transition in national life. These contributions were recognised when Gareth was awarded an Honorary Fellowship at his old University in Aberystwyth last summer. He was also always very active within his local community - in Church and he was president of the Welsh society in Washington.
