David was a man I knew through golf over many years. An accountant by profession with Walker Sutcliffe in Huddersfield, he brought a methodical approach to life, something that no doubt served him well both in business and on the golf course.

A keen member of Fixby Golf Club, where he served as both Captain and President, David clearly made a lasting contribution to the club and its members.

For many years, we arranged matches between our respective golfing sides under the rather grand title of the GAS Club — the Geriatric Alcoholic Society! Whatever the result, the matches always seemed to finish level, which suited everyone rather well!

Although I wouldn’t claim to have known David intimately, I always knew him as a fellow golfer with whom we shared many years of friendly competition and good company having days away with Janet and my missus, those memories are what remain important.

My deepest condolences to Janet, his daughter Katie, and grandchildren. The family also had a torrid time last year with the death of their other daughter Emma, which makes this a particularly difficult time for them all.

Perhaps, David, as the saying goes, “You’ve drunk it whilst it was fizzy — now have a good rest.”

You will be remembered with fondness by those who shared your love of golf and the good fellowship that goes with it —-Cheerio Fella.

Rest in peace David. The office will be quiet without you. I will miss your stories, even the ones you would tell me, and come in the very next week and tell me again! Such a generous and caring man and it has been a privilege to get to know you over 28 years. Many condolences to Janet, Katie, Gareth, Phoebe and Darcey. Kathryn xx
