In loving memory of Mr. Allsop,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Allsop’s passing. He taught me over ten years ago, when he came to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Through his guidance, I was first introduced to the world of Western early music — a world that has profoundly shaped who I am today.
Just yesterday, I gave a recital on the harpsichord and fortepiano in New York, and it was then that I heard this heartbreaking news from another former student of his in Beijing. I couldn’t help but think of him, and how much I owe to those early classes.
Thank you, dear Peter, for opening the door and planting the seed. Your legacy lives on.
With heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
May he rest in peace.
