Teresa MaryBOWERDied peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 29th, 2023, aged 99. Beloved wife of the late Derek (Dick) Bower, mother of Richard, William, Peter, Mary, Thomas and Christopher. Grandmother to Martin, Victoria, Louise, Thomas, Charlie, Emily, Alex, Sam, Ben, Elizabeth and James, plus she had fifteen great grandchildren. Tess was the youngest of eleven children of Clare and George Brocklehurst, the family which ran the Brocklehurst Hosiery Factory in Upper Bond Street, Hinckley, from around 1900 until 1971 when the factory closed. The Brocklehurst's were stalwart members of Hinckley's Catholic community and four of Tess's siblings took holy orders. Two sisters became nuns, two brothers became monks. Tess, a woman of some character, was the much-loved matriarch of the Bower family, who gave her the title, "Grandmere". The funeral service is being held at Mount St Bernard's Abbey, Oaks Road, Coalville, LE67 5UL, at 11am on Saturday, July 15th. Tess will be buried alongside her husband, in the Abbey Cemetery. Donations can be made to CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, on this link www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teresabower Or to Lee Cooper Funeral Directors, The Old Courthouse, Belvoir Road, Coalville, LE67 3PN. Tel: 01530 814999. One of her favourite sayings was from the medieval mystic, Mother Julian of Norwich: "All shall be well, all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well".
