I'm so v sad to hear of Jane's death. A much loved friend from birth. Sadly I'd been unable to make contact with her the last 5+ years and I therefore began to suspect Jane might not be in good health. So many memories - Miss Butts Nursery School, Oakdene, staying at the Hambledon Cottage, Henley Regatta and being very sick after going on the The Rotor in the fairground. Then later peach juice running down our chins on Exe Beach S of France. Later, with young families, meeting up in Cornwall and surfing; or she would call in on me in Devon on her way down with 3, no maybe 4? dogs & several lovely children. Most recently the tears and laughter with Jane, remembering both her husband and mine, who'd also died suddenly 18 mths earlier: we called it "Dead Husbands Talk". All over bottles of wine/glasses of gin or whilst tackling the overgrown veg garden! Dealing with her menagerie of animals whilst I was staying with her for a few days, I became aware she was beginning to struggle (uncomplainingly it seemed) with her health. Jane was so understanding and supportive but her sense of humour and laugh will stay with me for ever. And she taught me how to play sudoku! Goodbye dear friend. My thoughts are also with with Sally and Richard and of course her family, who she told me about in Xmas letters and I met when they were young. I will think of you on 22nd but Im so sorry I cant make the funeral in person.
