John was a hard working, dedicated and beautiful soul. He regularly did "unpaid overtime" in his Local Authority social services work to ensure the best job for his clients. He devoted much of his life to the maintenance and upkeep of Oat Street Unitarian Chapel. He and Eileen were so kind and hospitable to me and many others over the years. John also cared about the wider world and provided lots of support to the Palestinian cause. He never went to University but was so well read and so self taught. He was a star of the Chapel Friday Light weekly sharing of interests group. He faced up to his losses in life with stoicism and courage. He was not scheming, he was not self seeking, he was not hypocritical, he was not worldly. He was always well spoken and gentle. He will be much missed but at least he is now reunited with Eileen. The rest of us should now follow the example he set.
