Herbert FrancisHEWETTDied November 24th 2002. Born and raised in Cambridge, where he qualified as an electrician, but sadly not through an apprenticeship because his widowed mother couldn't afford to pay. Thus, he was obliged to"get on his bike" and cycle the 30 miles to Ware, to get employment,"until Christmas" with the Northmet Power Company. He had first met his wife at a dance in Cambridge in 1937, and they married in 1940 but it was only in 1946, when by then a family with a small daughter, that they were allocated a council house in Puckeridge. Later, they bought a cottage in the High Street before, finally, in 1986 they moved to a ground floor flat in Ware, where my dad delighted in the nickname,"The King of Broadmeads". Darling Bertie, neither of you will ever be forgotten while you can still live on in the thoughts of your devoted daughter, Frances.
