Rest in Peace Mr Oborn
You were 2nd deputy head during my time at Southborough during the 1980’s but it was you who kept the peace and held the school together.
You were respected by all the pupils regardless of their attitude to lessons with your forgiving manner and sense of humour.
We never met again after I left the school but I shall always remember you with fond affection.

John was a long-standing family friend from the time I was co-opted to help with School camps along with the rest of the family in the 1970s. John spent holidays in Switzerland with my family and School friends, winter and summer, until lockdown. He became an honorary uncle to my grandchildren and we will miss his extensive knowledge of the Swiss railway and bus timetable, his 5-minute walks and our games of scrabble. Rest in peace John.

Despite being a strict Headmaster, John was fair, and very much loved at Southborough Boys school.  And even a few of the boys who I knew were naughty during my time there, only had positive things to say about him!

It was through his influence at school and giving of a Gideon bible, that helped me along the Christian path, and I will miss the email discussions I had with him on Christianity and life.

Always remembered and never forgotten.
