I first met Brenda in 1978, when I joined the veterinary practice where she was employed as secretary. Our association lasted over a quarter of a century, passing through various changes of regime to me ultimately becoming her sole employer. Brenda was a larger-than-life, life-and-soul-of-the-party character with a great sense of humour, but who did not suffer fools gladly. I will never forget her deserved dismissal of the two VAT inspectors who could not cope with our computerised records. After the best part of an hour asking silly questions they finally confessed that they had not done their computer course yet, 'We didn't realise that you used a computer.' Brenda's response was, 'What did you think we use? A quill pen?' Caring, kind and considerate, a very supportive friend, and a loyal and scrupulously honest employee, I know Brenda will be greatly missed.
