Walter Henry JamesWRIGHTOf Gilwern, Monmouthshire passed peacefully on November 5th in Chilton Place Nursing Home, Brynmawr after an incredibly brave battle with cancer. Walter was born in Cwm Celyn to Mary Maud and Bill Wright and was known for his herculean strength from day one. Ever the athlete, he was praised for his abilities from a young age being hailed "the best athlete" his school had ever seen. After school he joined the RAF, and then went on to play rugby and study at Loughborough University. In 1955, he met and married Olive P. Yates and together they started a beautiful family, soon welcoming to the world their only daughter, Ingrid Carolan. An inspiring teacher and headmaster, a chairman of the Welsh School Boys Rugby, beloved husband, incredible father and grandfather, mentor to all that knew him. Walter touched the hearts of so many. He was a charismatic and gentle giant and never more loving than with his granddaughters whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife Olive, his daughter Ingrid, his granddaughters Zahra, Amina, Genna, Resha and Zeena, his great-grandson Gaibriel, and his two brothers, Graham and Dennis. Our hearts will never be the same without him. Services will he held on Friday, November 16th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Brynmawr. Reception to follow at Glaslyn Nursing Home, Gilwern.
