I only just found this. Really sad to hear of Steve passing. Met him at Keele University in 1990 and had many boozy sessions with him there and afterwards at his home in Chester. We shared a similar political outlook. Unfortunately lost touch with him in recent years

I was lucky enough to have Steve come and work with me when I got my first break in management. He helped me so much professionally but more importantly, he was there when I was going through a very difficult time during my father's illness. I'll never forget the impact Steve had on my life and how he talked so fondly of his family. A gentleman, grafter and all round good man. Rest in peace pal.

Uncle Steve was brave and kind enough to take me on my first holiday away from parents - to camp by the beach in Wales. Definitely not what he had in mind before we’d pleaded with him to let us tag along, but it was typical of him that he didn’t bat an eyelid. I was the youngest and the most annoying, and he spent most of the weekend good-naturedly rescuing me from toilets I’d locked myself into and kayaks I was too small to paddle. As the years went by I remember visits to Keele, United games on the radio and Boxing Day parties at Tarvin Rd. I always came away wishing we lived closer. He made a special effort to make it to our wedding last year, even though he wasn’t well and couldn’t stay long, and it was brilliant to see him, as always. A great uncle and someone I feel lucky to have known. Dave (and Martha) x

A very dear friend who will be sadly missed. A kind, gentle, generous and quiet man who always thought of others before himself.
He never failed to disappoint with his famous beef bourguignon food parcels. Our daughter Isabel adored him...teaching him the art of the selfie! We will miss him greatly. Rob, Sarah and Isabel Handley
