HowardBLACKBURNSuddenly on 27th July 2024 at home. Howard aged 76 years of Clitheroe.

The dearly loved husband of Janet, much loved dad of Simon and Paul, a devoted grandad of Xavi, Regan and Skye, also brother of the late Keith and friend to many.

Reposing in ‘Peacehaven’ Chapel of Rest.

A service will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Parish Church, Clitheroe on Tuesday 13th August at 10.45am followed by cremation at Burnley Crematorium at 12.15pm.

Family flowers only please, donations in memory of Howard, if desired are invited to either St. Mary Magdalene Parish Church, Clitheroe
(please make cheques payable to PCC of St. Mary Magdalene Clitheroe) or Mary’s meals or Cancer Research UK and can be given via this website, left at the church service or given to a family member.

Having moved to Clitheroe at the age of fourteen, he attended CRGS then went on to a job at Ribblesdale Cement. In May 1967 he was offered a job as Despatch Clerk at B. Dugdale and Sons, incidentally the same day he started going out with Janet. He enjoyed a 43 year long career at Dugdale’s, retiring as Managing Director. He made many friends in the farming community. He was a member of Settle Farmers Club for many years and Chairman in 1992/3.

Howard married Janet in 1970 and two sons arrived a few years later. The family was later extended by three grandchildren and he also welcomed Gillian, Emma and Clare into his close family.

As a member of Round Table, 41 Club and Rotary, fellowship and service meant a lot to him and he was an enthusiastic fundraiser. Something he particularly enjoyed was being Father Christmas. In his year as President of Rotary he organised a ball for MacMillan which raised thousands of pounds. He was amazed to become a Paul Harris Fellow, and very appreciative of being awarded the Paul Harris sapphire pin which recognised his efforts, along with others, to arrange a massive collection of aid for Ukraine.

He was a keen member of Clitheroe Squash Club and after he was first treated for cancer, organised a 24 hour squash marathon which club members generously took part in and this raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research.

Retirement brought the opportunity for more leisure time, often spent walking and completing several National Trails - usually accompanied by a curly coated retriever.

He became a JP at this point, which gave him great satisfaction. He was a trustee of several charities, which kept him busy.

He had a strong Christian faith and wholeheartedly involved himself with this church. He served on the PCC and was proud to be a churchwarden for 6 years.

He was a friend to many, something borne out by all the testaments which have been received b the family in the last two weeks.

He lived his life to the full and leaves a huge gap in our lives.

A true Christian gentleman. Love your neighbour as yourself was lived out. So many benefitted from his love for those in need. A man who was an inspiration to many.
Apologies for missing the funeral. I am in Spain.
God Bless
