Meant the world to us, and although not related we would call you Uncle Carl, and of course the beautiful late Irene was Auntie . Adored both of you.
Wicked sense of humour. You never lost it.
So glad I got to talk to you over the phone a few months ago, albeit to tell you of the sad death of my dear Father Bryan Cliffe. You lifted my spirits with stories from the past. Especially the one where my Dad cleaned your chimney. He got the brush stuck. A small person being sent up to retrieve it seemed a good idea. Everyone in the room turned to me. Aged about 5 or 6 at the time. Apparently I wailed!!
Tonight dearest Uncle Carl I raise a glass, OK, large tumbler, of whiskey to you.
The words fond and happy when recalling memories of both you and Irene do not seem strong enough.
Safe journeys for you both now on that tandem in the sky.
All my love and much more,
Katie Cliffe.
PS. I would in later years have most happily gone up a chimney for you. Xxx
Katie Cliffe
