DerrickBROCKBANKof Poplar Close, Oswaldtwistle, was the son of the late Albert and Florrie Brockbank. Derrick spent all his working life as an electrician with Hyndburn Council. He was a well known church organist, and was the organist at St. Peter’s Church for over 60 years, he also played at many of the other churches in the area. As well as being an organist and choirmaster at St. Peter’s he was also a churchwarden for many years and he undertook several other jobs at the church. In the early 70s he joined with two others and purchased a chalet in South West Wales at Nolton Haven later taking sole ownership of the chalet which he kept until quite recently. He visited the chalet often and got to know the South West Wales area and its towns and villages well. As well as holidaying in Wales he also enjoyed holidays with his friends on the Greek Island of Crete. Derrick had enjoyed good health up to the last few years when he suffered a mini stoke and whilst he recovered from that he did start having other problems and several stays in hospital. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and acquaintances. Derrick will be received into St Peter’s Church, Accrington on Tuesday, February 28 at 6pm. Requiem mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 1 at 12.45pm, followed by a committal at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please, but donations in memory of Derrick may be made to The Salvation Army c/o Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington. All further enquiries, tel 01254 233133.
