I have known Alan as a good friend for more than 50 years, from our time as colleagues with an internationally known auditing firm in Hamburg to our frequent contacts of the past few years via fax, e-mail and telephone. My wife Agnes and I wish to express our sincere condolences to his wife Lynne and the family on their great loss.

I shall personally very much miss our frequent exchange of news, views and opinions on all sorts of topic, from the political climate in the UK and Germany, through cultural matters (particularly literature and music) to trying to fix up digital devices. I always appreciated Alan’s reasoned opinions and his passing has left a hole in my own life’s activities.

Agnes and I wish Lynne fortitude and strength for the future.
