Tribute to My Friend, Peter Clegg
My heart is broken. I find myself thinking of Peter every day.
I remember so clearly the first time we met, over 40 years ago, in the Arklow Silver Band bandroom. That meeting marked the beginning of a lasting friendship—one built on kindness, trust, and shared memories.
Peter welcomed Geraldine and me into his home, a gesture that spoke volumes about the kind of man he was—warm, generous, and always glad of company. I had the privilege of wiring a house he was building in Arklow for a relation, and it was typical of Peter that even work became another opportunity for friendship and connection.
He visited Arklow often over the years, and those visits were always something to look forward to. I remember keeping an electric bike in my shed for him so he could get around easily—it was a small thing, but it suited him, and we both knew it was part of the rhythm of his visits.
Peter’s presence was steady and sincere. He was one of those people who quietly made life better just by being there.
I will miss him deeply.
