I worked with Derek from 1999-2006 and remember him as a real character. From the way he answered the phone abruptly '254 Derek Clowes', to the awkward shrug he would do when passing you on the corridor, to the never-changing packed lunch of fish paste sandwiches and a hot cross bun.

He was very kind to me when I was on student placement and had me to stay at his house with his beloved cat, Ginge. Breakfast was very civilised, with the table laid nicely and toast in a toast rack.

I am happy to have these fond memories of Derek and hope that those close to him can take comfort in such memories.
